Frequently Asked Questions |
| |
Does it matter where I live? Yes. The guaranty association covers only policyholders and certificate holders that were valid Florida residents on the date that a member insurer is declared insolvent and liquidated. If you are a Florida resident on that date, you may be covered by FLAHIGA even if you subsequently move to another state. If you were a resident of another state on the liquidation date, but subsequently moved to Florida, you will not be covered by FLAHIGA. Instead, the guaranty association for your original state would cover you. If you were a resident of another state on the date of liquidation or rehabilitation, contact that state's department of insurance for information for information on how to contact the guaranty association in your state. You may wish to visit the "Facts & Figures Association Contact Info" section at www.nolhga.com for a complete list of guaranty associations. You may also want to go to the Links section of this site to determine if your state's guaranty association has a Web site. Note that guaranty association coverage may vary by state. As a result, coverage provided by the FLAHIGA Act may differ in some ways from coverage provided by another state's law. |
